Server Lag Tips

  • Always install an auto-shutoff function and overflow protection on every machine or contraption you build! This is required by our server rules!
  • Minimize the use of pumps and smart blocks, such as brass funnels, brass tunnels, and smart chutes.
  • Minimize the use of mechanical belts.
    • For conveying rotational power, encased chain drives can be used instead.
    • For transporting items, other methods such as drawer networks are usually more efficient and more server-friendly.
    • For transporting items short distances, fluid drains may be a good alternative as well.
  • Limit the speed and scale of your machine or contraption to only what is needed. This is to minimize the number of updates-per-tick the server has to keep up with. If the contraption can perform the same function over a longer period of time, it can reduce server lag.

Client Lag Tips

  • Encase shafts in andesite or brass casing. Similarly, you can encase pipes in copper casing.
  • Reduce the number of cogs rendering by using rotational speed controllers, adjustable chain drives, and other rotational power sources for changing rotation speed, instead of gear ratio combinations.
  • Avoid using fluid tanks whenever possible.
  • Avoid harvesters and rollers as much as possible.
  • Use only as many steam engines and blaze burners as you need.
  • Minimize the amount of rapid light-level updates that need to process (this is particularly noticeable with large quantities of redstone dust, redstone lamps, or moving blocks.
